David Wagaman, Associate Professor of Accounting and Finance, has made extraordinary efforts to incorporate the services of the Career Development Center (CDC) in the classroom as well as campus activities. As the advisor of the Accounting Club, Wagaman has used his position as an opportunity to guide students in their career development.

Having a long standing history with the CDC, the Kutztown University Accounting Club continues to support the office under Wagaman’s direction. Conforming to the needs of each individual event, the CDC has participated in Accounting Club events ranging from networking seminars to a "Meet the Firm" night.

"The CDC has been instrumental in the Accounting Club event, ‘Mocktails: A Networking Seminar,’" Wagaman says. "CDC officials explained how students should conduct themselves at a networking event, like a cocktail party." In addition, Wagaman stresses the CDC’s role in the other Accounting Club events. "The CDC has recently helped to coordinate the Accounting Club’s Meet the Firm Night. This event features all the companies and firms that come to campus...it is partly informational in nature, partly networking in nature. CDC officials have given our students such good advice on how they should conduct themselves."

From events to in office services, Wagaman notes that the CDC provides an enormous amount of resources for students, including the resume review service, which has been incorporated into Accounting Club activities. "For the last ten years or so, they [CDC] has been instrumental in producing an Accounting Club Resume book," Wagaman says.

Although he incorporates heavily incorporates CDC services in his instruction, Wagaman believes that not enough students utilize them to their full advantage. "I wish our students would learn about the CDC early on in their time at KU and use it throughout their four years," Wagaman says. "Too many students first become acquainted with the CDC in their last semester when they suddenly realize they better get a job."

However, through his work as a Career Advocate, Wagaman has guided many students to better prepare for their future post graduation.
